MASSILLON TIGER FOOTBALL
This site is dedicated to Massillon Football.  If you are looking for links or information to sites dedicated to any other high school, you are at the wrong place.

A little background:  I was born at Massillon City Hospital on July 31st 1966.  Shortly after my birth, I was, like all other baby boys, given a football.  I still have my football.  It's smashed flat and cracked, but it's in a ziplock bag and should be ok forever.  As I grew up I wanted nothing else but to be a TIGER.  My Dad was on the sign crew and did various other things to help the program, and I can remember tracing those signs and writing "Beat" whoever we were playing that week and having my Dad take them to various players on the team.  Everyone has a "the night I became a Tiger" story.  Mine revolves around my first recollection of a game, or at least the outcome of that game.  It was the 1974 mckinley game.  The thing I remember most about this game was the last play.  The Tigers had a horrible year and were facing unbeaten mckinley.  The last play was an out and up that Ed Bell caught with 6 seconds left to give the Tigers the win.  I never saw the play happen!  I was 7 or 8 and short.  When the ball was snapped, everyone stood up.  The only thing I saw was me getting bounced around by everyone celebrating, and Mom and Dad hugging and kissing each other and Mom crying because she was HAPPY.  I knew what was going on out there was special.  Dad was later both Sideliner and Booster club president and I started for the Tigers as a receiver my senior year.  But that stuff is unimportant.  I love Massillon because I am part of it and it is part of me, forever.
Massillon has won 22 state titles and 9 national titles.  They were all won before the inception of the state playoffs.  There are many people out there who say that none of these titles are real because they were voted on by sports writers.  If anyone can find for me the other method before 1972 that was used to determine the state champions I will give their argument some credence.  But if they determine while searching that this was the ONLY method used then I don't know what to tell them.  mckinley people are fond of saying this, so I am assuming they will not lay claim to the national title awarded to them by USA Today in 1997.
